This place is getting lots of high marks. I'm going to break down my rating. 1. The location isn't great. Unless you are just in the area, I wouldn't make the trip up (or down) here. 2. The interior of the place is fantastic. Very swanky and full of low neon lighting. 3. The food is alright. Sushi and hibachi were neither great nor bad at all. 4. The service was very "chilly." Our waitress was nice, but I couldn't hear her at all and I had no idea if she heard or took down our order correctly. Overall, if you are in the mood for some decent Asian food and are in the area, don't pass it up! I just wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

Great sushi special! I was surprised at how nice the place was when we walked in. Nice setup, good atmosphere! Fast service, not the biggest selection on rolls but they were yummy! Spicy crab roll is a go!

My favorite sushi place to go, hands down. I go Saturdays for lunch and my girlfriend orders pad thai which you can choose your protein for $7, and the portion is quite large. She loves it. I usually get a box lunch I think its called and its $14 but a steal for what you get. The white river roll box is the best in my opinion. They also offer a military discount. Next time I'm going to try general tsos and I probably won't be disappointed. Must try, the place looks awesome inside too.

My hubby and I are newlyweds, honeymooning in Charleston. We were at the local mall and yelped for places that served sushi. The reviews and proximity of this place had us very curious. It's not in the best part of town, but the food and cocktails make up for that. We had excellent service. My husband ordered the teriyaki chicken hibachi and I had 3 sushi rolls. All the food was delightful. I would recommend this place. It would even be cute for date nights as the interior is amazing Enjoy!

Amazing looking place on the inside. Very modern and clean. The sushi is delicious. We almost passed by but I am glad we went in. Reasonable prices.

You must ask for Hot Sauce for your cook if you are going to sit down at the Hibachi!!! He really made the night for me! Hilarious! Only took away a star because the waitress we had for drinks and our bills was completely rude and couldn't get our tickets straight.

Chose this place based on the review and proximity to our hotel, great choice. Very pleased and the food was great. Fresh fish and perfect rice. $104 for two of us with appetizers and sushi. I would not hesitate to go back. Nice atmosphere to boot.

This restaurant is very unassuming on the exterior, and surprisingly very modern and brand new on the inside. Multiple sushi bars and habachi. We had the chefs sushi and sashimi special. The tuna was very fresh. Has to be the best sushi in the Charleston area.

The decor of this restaurant is fantastic. It has a futuristic feel and is very sleek. We tried some sushi and had the Classic Vegetable Tempura Entree. I wasn't a fan of the tempura entree especially because it did not come with rice. I think this tempura entree would be better suited as an appetizer. I appreciated that the vegetables were not super greasy, but the batter they used must have been just flour and water because it was tasteless. The sushi we had was very tasty. We tried the Tornado, Tempura Sweet Potato, Spicy Crab Roll and Salmon rolls. They all tasted fresh but my favorite one was the Tornado. This roll had a nice spice and great flavors. We concluded our meal with the Fried Cheesecake. This was a true disappointment namely because we were not served a fried cheesecake but a lemon pie instead. Did they think we would not notice the difference between cheesecake and lemon pie? Aside from the fact that this was falsely advertised it did not taste good and it was served with a watered down tasting ice cream. Final Thoughts: This is a good date night restaurant for sushi. Stay away from the Fried Cheesecake!

As others have mention not much on the outside but inside awesome. Had Sushi twice this week. Great food and service. Can't wait for my next trip.

First of all, DO NOT be fooled by its outside appearance. This place is super swanky inside. Apparently, it has gone through some renovations lately, and they are great. We came here after Miyabi had a long wait. What a great decision! First, the interior is clean and updated. They seated us immediately and our waiter was super friendly. He immediately got our drink and appetizer order. As soon as they came out, we had decided on our Hibachi entrees. My favorite thing is there were no veggies in the rice. LOVED that. I ordered shrimp sushi and chicken hibachi, which was great. The sushi did not have the wasabi inside like some restaurants do, but I didn't mind that at all. My chicken was a significantly larger portion that I've had at other hibachi places and my dad's filet was phenomenal! We didn't try dessert for being too full, but everything was amazing, from start to finish. Just a note, the salads have a lot of dressing, which may bother some folks.

My wife and I came down to Charleston for a concert. We decided to try a local Sushi restaurant that was down the road from our hotel. Inside it looked more like a bar/nightclub. But don't let that stop you, sit at the sushi bar and try the specials. Not only were they delicious, they were beautifully presented. You can tell the chefs take pride in their craft and they are happy to receive compliments and will take the time to speak with you. The serving staff was outstanding, very friendly and attentive. I would go out of my way to visit here again. Enjoy

Most recent review incorrect/incomplete info. Osaka's N Chas location is TEMPORARILY closed. I called the other location who confirmed it's closed for remodel, slated to reopen at the end of this month. Hope that proves to be accurate!! Love their sushi!!!

The main reason Osaka gets one star is because of the service. The food is really great, they recently increased their prices since they reopened but the service is horrible. It took 20 minutes for a server to even come take our order. Waiters would walk by our and other tables that hadn't been helped multiple times. It seemed like the waiters would choose what tables they wanted to serve and they didn't have designated areas. We received our soup and salads before we even got our drinks. My boyfriends come was so watered down I could see through it. No one came to check on the table and while we were there 6 couples walked out because no one came to take their drink or food orders after 20-30 minutes. After we paid our bill I decided to talk to the manager in a polite way to pass along the the service was horrible. Instead of accepting the constructive criticism coming from someone who's worked in the service industry and continues to work in customer service the manager disregarded my concern. Told me that they were short staffed and the waiters had to manage their own tables. If you know your short staffed instead of having your bus boys only clean tables have them take drink orders and refill waters. There must have been at least 5 people standing around in the back at one time not doing anything all the while 3 tables not having been helped. Needless to say we will never be back to Osaka.

Osaka has gone through some great renovations to both the inside and entrance to the restaurant and it looks great. The updated modern decor creates a great atmosphere to along with the ambiance. Coming from Seattle with some top notch sushi fare I do have to say Osaka is one of the better restaurants in the area. I had two rolls, the insanity roll and the Clemson roll. Both rolls were delicious and the fish tasted fresh. The flavors were great and the service was spot on.

If you are going for sushi and yummy Japanese appetizers, this is the place. Great food and beautiful atmosphere. Don't judge by the location. You will be stunned by the ambience. My goto is: Spicy Tuna Gyoza Tornado Roll Philli Roll (They don't jip you on the salmon) We always try somewhere else, but nothing compares. YUM!

I can't say for the restaurant or the sushi bar, but the hibachi grill was awesome! The chef was quite entertaining and the food was great. They offered three sauces: a ginger, mustard, and something else. All three were fantastic. My wife and I are from out of town but come to see family when we can. Always look for good food when we come and in my book this was awesome!

Came for lunch and wasn't disappointed at all. The rolls are great tasting and portions were huge. Price per roll average is $14 per order. We waited for awhile for the sushi since there was only 1 person making the rolls, and the patrons mostly ordered sushi so there was a backup. The atmosphere is like an ultra bar kinda. Large private lot for parking.I didn't order the hot food is I can't say if it was good or not.

I can sum this place up in one word....meh. The location is rather horrid, but it's actually awesome inside. It's clear that it's newly renovated interior-wise. The food was, at best, blah. I'm pretty disappointed, because the reviews were so positive...I've come to the conclusion that all the good reviews stem from those who got sushi because it certainly couldn't have been the hibachi. I got the hibachi shrimp (all four of them) and beef. The rice was plain and bland-it could have been Uncle Ben's. There was nothing in it, no egg or bacon. Thank goodness for white sauce, as it was the only thing that saved the dish. The beef and shrimp were also just okay. For as much as you pay for the hibachi (and as little as you get), I'd much rather pay the extra four dollars and go to wasabi (larger portions and much better food). Even the service was bland...just okay. So, overall, everything was just okay. I'd probably try it again but it definitely wouldn't be by choice. I will say, though, that my husband liked his sushi, which was also cheaper. Go try it...it'll be okay

The service was really bad from the beginning the waitress had no patience just asked what we wanted to drink and ran back. The place was almost empty with only three tables so she was not busy. They ended up forgetting to place my wife's order and our appetizer and brought out my food and my daughter's food. When we talked to the manager, she decided to argue and interrupt when we were trying to explain. We ended up leaving without eating because of their negligence. I would not return nor will I recommend this to anyone.

Modern asian alright if thats what you wanna call the slow takeover of asian cuisine by chinese knockoffs. Hibachi is drenched in soy sauce. But from my experience, thats how white people like their asian food. Drenched in sodium. And why would anyone use sushi grade rice to make fried rice? Carrots taste like theyve been soaking in old water. Sushi... Maybe its just im from california/washington/oregon where even the cheapest places still try to uphold quality. Mediocre. Nothing special. My plate was dirty too. Call me picky all you want but honestly, if i was a local i would never come back. Sayonara osaka. Or should i say tsai chian. Nimen fan shi bu hao.

Don't let the outside deceive you. The service was great and the Sushi was excellent. Beautiful presentation and beautiful atmosphere. Definitely will be returning.

A large group of us went here Sunday afternoon and had a blast! I hadn't been since the remodel so I was amazed at the new high end look and feel. It's gorgeous. We sat on the hibachi side and were thoroughly entertained by "Bubbles" and "Carlos". (I'm not putting money on if those are their real names, but regardless they had us laughing the entire time!) The food was great and I'm actually still eating leftovers. Can't wait to go back.

In short, Osaka was decent. The location wasn't great and looked quite outdated from the outside, but as others have mentioned, it had a decent ambiance with a newly updated interior. Lots of new lighting, reflective surfaces, table settings and high quality menus. Unfortunately, their service and food were lacking that updated appeal. I ordered the veggie pad thai and my husband ordered a few rolls of sushi. We also ordered the gyoza and spring roll as an appetizer. The gyoza was pretty good, but lacked flavor and seasoning. The spring roll was lightly fried on the outside, and went from lava hot to ice cold throughout the center, leading me to believe it was microwaved and then dipped in an oil bath only briefly before it was served out to me. The pad thai left everything to be desired. This was even less delicious than the pad thai I can make with rice noodles and Archer Farms pad thai sauce with some vegetables thrown on top at home. It was very bland, although the service size was huge. I could only eat a third before I had enough. The sushi was pretty good, and they have a variety of specialty rolls. My husband ordered the volcano, California, and something else. All were done fairly well and were substantial in size (especially the volcano). The service was the worst of the entire evening. There were only four other tables eating while we were there, and orders were consistently being mixed up. Before we had even received our drink we had some dipping sauce from another table delivered to us, which spilled everywhere and was not cleaned up by the staff, we ended up using our linen napkins. The service was slowly paced, although there was a definite language barrier between the waiter who was serving us and what we were trying to say which I believe made things a bit harder.

I used to love coming here. Sushi was always on point...service was amazing. Since the reopening none of that is true. I waited 5 minutes to have someone acknowledge me...even though they were passing me every few seconds. Sushi rolls I could have gotten at a grocery store and it been better. Given them 3chances since they reopened....I think that might have been 2 too many.

Food was ok I have had better. The service was horrible, I was charged $16 when I asked for a kids meal that was $8.50 when I went to talk to the manager the people working at the front desk told there was not one at the restaurant but I looked at the badge and it said manager, she blamed everything on the waitress and told me that when that usually happens is because they are new and get confused, really!!! I am glad we are just visiting from out of town, we won't be back to this restaurant. If you want an instant heart attack go here, they will use a pound of butter plus a gallon of oil on your meal. Will not recommend to any one. Very disappointed!!!

I understand the "hate it/love it" reviews this place has been getting. Food was great. Lighting and decor was impressive. The one fly in the place liked my plate. The waitress didn't write down my order and ended up forgetting the appetizer altogether. I talked myself into getting some sake but never got the opportunity to ask for some. Boys 2 Men was playing the whole meal. Some gory shark movie was playing on the TV. I usually go to the Sake House. This was a better atmosphere, little bit better food, but not anywhere near the same service. I'll bounce between the two when I'm in town, depending on my mood.

Just remodeled and this place looks amazing! The sushi is great and don't forget to get some Goyza! Hopefully they get some music on the weekends this place is going to be quite the hit. The food is great and the special sushi items were very good. A little pricey but they did just sink a ton of money into remodeling, so that is understandable. I will most definitely be back for more.

When eating here I would just stick to the sushi. I wasn't a fan when I ventured into the Asian part of the menu. Very delicious cold sake. Great service.

Ok, I don't see my Check In review. So adding here and adding a little more (not meant in a harsh tone) ... It's "ok". Not much taste for the price at all. It must have been a bad night or new person? Ask for your green salad dressing on the side. There was a LOT on my salad. But, someone try the seaweed and let us know how it is, ok? :) From The waitress' were GREAT! Very attentive and quick. Don't ever stick your chopsticks in your rice unless eating your rice! HUGE no no in Japan. This is just me, I am sure, there are no windows in the dining room. I am not sure about the hibachi side. As soon as I sat down in the booth I was not comfortable w/no window. *AGAIN* this is just me lol But, I wanted to let you know. :) PS: The lighting was way too reminiscent of the 80's for me. The photo of the drink is a perfect example.

6 dollars for 2 spring rolls and then the meal came out cold also took a long time considering there were two other tables. Thanks Yelpers. Found this place via the reviews, and it was great. Loved how the inside (modern) doesn't match the outside (kind of kitchy motel) I half expected to see tiki torches as I walked in. But sleek, modern, and great food.

This is a hidden gem. I really like the "box" lunches, be sure to get the goyza - tasty little fried pot stickers. The interior decor is very modern, a neat surprise. The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable.

Tried this place today and I must say most of the reviews are spot on. While the photos already on yelp show this place as a bustling go to, it was extremely quiet and empty. Staff was very friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The restaurant appeared to be extremely well kept and clean up front. We ordered an appetizer of vegetable spring rolls, they never came so I think our waitress forgot but it was honestly ok because apparently they are $2 per roll (a bit insane if you ask me). My husband ordered a shrimp lo mein which came with a miso soup and I ordered some rolls: California, eel and avocado, and tempura sweet potato. All were very fresh and presentable, and tasted as they should, though I would not rave about them. Their wasabi was not very potent, so those wasabi lovers may need to ask for extra! The miso soup was correctly made with a vegetable broth and had pretty rich flavor that I enjoyed despite miso soup not being a favorite dish of mine to begin with. The shrimp lo mein was just alright. The serving size was not very large and needed more vegetables. The shrimp was a bit over cooked and too salty which seemed like it was trying to mask a fishy taste of maybe not so fresh shrimp. We spent $21 after a 10% military discount which isn't a pricey meal out but we both felt that we would prefer to pay more for better food over all. I would also like to note that this place does not provide an extensive variety of sushi or rolls, or menu items in general but I still give 4 stars over all (would put 3.5) just because we have tried so many Asian cuisine restaurants in the greater Charleston and surrounding areas and this is FAR better than most.

Wow! I stopped by here because it was close to the Air Base where I live and needed just a quick meal to take home. Holy cow. This place is super nice and clean on the inside. When they say modern they mean it. All new renovations inside, and the food is great. We are in love with their sushi rolls. From simple California rolls, to complex house specialties they are our go to for Asian now. They also have a hibatchi girl inside that looks great. Haven't tried it yet but we will soon!

Really good sushi and great service. Reasonable prices not cheap but not expensive. Always come here when in town. Spicy tuna roll is my favorite and. They make it right:) waitstaff is very attentive and the restaurant is very clean. Nice to see they offer military discounts as well:)

Tried this place yesterday and I went back the second time today. It was very good. I used to go to wasabi in summerville but got kind of tired of the same sushi. I am so glad I tried this place out. The interior is very clean and beautiful. My only complain was the AC, it was a little too cold in there. Just remember to bring a light jacket. Server was very nice. Sushi was very fresh and yummy. I did not give a 5 Stars rating because my server was "dumb". i am sorry to say that. I asked her for a box for my sushi. Then she was trying to box my sushi up for me. And then she said "hmmm. i don't know how to use chopstick !!!!!" She tried to move my sushi to the box. But i stopped her before all my sushi fall apart. I think she was not too smart to offer to box up my sushi when she did not even know how to use chopstick. Overall, I love the food there and will go back soon. :)
